Scientists, inventors and explorers
1. Scientists and inventors (alternative a)
Prepare an oral presentation. Choose an inventor, or a scientist from an English-speaking country.
Pick an invention or reaserach findings by this person and describe it. Also put the person into an historical context - what has this person achieved, why is he/she known today and how will he/she be remembered in the future?
Work individually or in pairs. Your presentation should be 5-10 minutes long.
You will need to use some kind of visual aid, for example a Power Point Presentation.
Remember to use notes instead of a written manuscript and don't forget to name your sources!
Put some kind of documentation of your work into your Portfolio (e.g. a printout of your Power Point Presentation)
2. Explorers (alternative b)
Prepare an oral presentation. Choose an explorer from an English-speaking country.
Pretend that you are this explorer and present your photo album (or your drawings) from one of your expeditions.
Work individually or in pairs. Your presentation should be 5-10 minutes long.
You will need to use some kind of visual aid, for example a Power Point Presentation.
Remember to use notes instead of a written manuscript and don't forget to name your sources!
Put some kind of documentation of your work into your Portfolio (e.g. a printout of your Power Point Presentation)

Sir Francis Drake (British) 1540 (about)-1596 Circumnavigated the world in the 16th century
Walter Raleigh (British) 1552-1618 Established the first colony in the new world
Scientists and inventors:
Charles Darwin (British) 1809-1882 contributed to making theory of species evolving known
Sir Isaac Newton (British) 1643-1727 One of the world´s greatest scientists.
Thomas Edison (American) 1847-1931 An important inventor and mathematician.
Alexander Fleming (British) 1881-1955 Discovered penicillin.
James Harrison (Scotland-Australia) 1816-1893 Invented the ice-making machine.
